When I started playing in Gor, I lived on the sims of others. Astryyd lived first in Vahalla Cliffs and then in Jarnheim. Bjorn and others lived in a variety of other locations about SL Gor. We grew tired of sims coming and going and us losing homes so once the roleplay shifted and Astryyd was taken as a slave by Bjorn, we decided to rent a piece of property, make the Aett our home and travel for roleplay but always have a home to return to that was not dependent on other sims.
Our first property was a small corner lot on a larger sim. We added some off-sim components to make the world not seem so small. We started with a small home and a few G&S gardens and such to work with. In time we upgrade to a larger house and moved the G&S Fields and the Jarl’s forge to a platform above the property. We spent a lot of time roleplaying with a group of people at Green Inlet and even had a teleport directly from our sim to theirs. Their sim was BEAUTIFUL! Unfortunately, that sim eventually closed as well.
We quickly our grew our space and rented a large place from Bella Pointe. They offered full size sim platforms but parcel prims so it was a lot of space but low cost based on your prim base. We rented a Winter skybox to immolate what the cold Northern winter would be like. Unfortunately, I do not have any good pictures from that version of the Aett. We left Bella Pointe and moved to a new sim called Kattagat. A Viking sim that was loosely Gorean but that allowed children as long as the children were being played by adults. When this sim moved from a homestead to ha full sim, we decided that we wanted to try to build our own homestead.
We found an awesome property for the cheapest I have ever seen in SL, promptly rented it and begin building. At first we had everything on the ground level. The village was low and near the water and muddy, there was an arena over a creek behind the village, the fields and livestock were on the mid level sloping up to the mountain were the mines and the altar was located. We considered ourselves a private sim but would invite people over to live and play on the sim.
We soon changed the layout and moved the fields, arena and livestock to a farm platform in the sky, freeing up the ground space for more water and hills. We moved the living portions to this mid-level to protect it and opened the sim up for anyone to come visit. The sim remained this way for a long time and even rolled through season changes. We had some regular players that lived and played on the Aett but it was still a quiet home for the Jarl and his girls. We ran a Bond School to teach girls how to be a bond in the North since there were no schools in SL Gor dedicated to that. Adira was even asked to teach classes on Torvaldsland at the Gorean Campus.
Time drove on and due to a variety of circumstances, we became somewhat disenchanted with SL Gor and decided to pursue a different genre to roleplay in. We decided to turn the Aett into Torre de Lupercal, an ancient Roman villa located near Pompeii. We synced our roleplay with that of the Pompeii sim and did have some good sessions but our heart was not really into Roman RP and I was not anymore a free at heart and therefore found it difficult to play. The girl longed to serve 🙂
We set all of it aside to work on other projects turning the ground area of the sim into a Zombie Hunting sim, something else that is our passion. You can read more about this on the Dark Earth weblog (darkearth2080.wordpress.com). It is popular and it thrives……..but Gor calls to us once again.
The Jarl packed up his girls on his long ship and set out for smaller lands to farm and forge on. He was looking for land further south with more trees to build ships and other wares to sell at the markets. To this end, we set up two skyboxes on the homestead and set up a small farm with livestock, fields, forge and the new Carpentry shop. Here we are for now in our small but cozy home, until the winds of change come again.
January 2016- UPDATE! Winds of Change
The Jarl returned to the high mountains of Torvaldsland missing the cold winters of his birth. Finding a secluded inlet, he rebuilt the Aett in a valley of the Hrimgar Mountains.
